A  Conversation With The CEO Of Genre Records

Yvette Binns-Clark and "Syrie"

Yvette: What inspired you to write “Jest A Little Longer”?

Syrie: I wrote “Jest A Little Longer” when I was 15 years old. The idea originally came from the fact that I use to get bad stage fright and closing my eyes would help. I could escape and how overall I just wasn’t adjusted to performing and got extreme anxiety from it. The more I wrote I decided to do it from a dream perspective because I would always dream of going on stage and all the possible outcomes.

Yvette: So, how do you feel now when you are on stage?

Syrie: When I’m on stage now I feel so comfortable and ready to tell a story. I feel like I’m having a conversation with people because my songs are usually true things I’ve been through in life or have felt. If I could change anything it would probably be how much I use to doubt myself when I started my career. But I got through with the help and the encouragement of my family, friends, and the wonderful people I have met along the way. They have truly given me that push and that confidence that I didn’t initially see in myself and that’s something I will forever be thankful for.

Yvette: What do you hope that your fans to get from your music?

Syrie: I hope my fans get that I am here to create a vision. I want everyone to take my songs and interpret them in any way they want so that they feel like they had a very personal experience. I’m so grateful for everyone that takes the time to listen to these messages and stories. I want to tell these stories and be vulnerable to everyone. Additionally, I want them to really channel how these stories make them feel as well.

Yvette: How does this professional musician/songwriter/recording artist experience make you feel?

Syrie: This experience is so unreal to me. I wrote it so long ago. I never thought it would be brought to life like this. I’m so grateful to everyone who has pushed me to be a better artist and encourage me and help me through all of this. All I want to do is be able to let everyone experience what goes through my head (my creative process). It’s such an exciting experience and a blessing.

Especially, I want to give you a BIG thank you, Mrs. Yvette and your husband, Mr. David, and the entire Genre Records team for believing in me and my music!! Not only are you the AMAZING CEO of Genre Records, but you were the producer for my first release, “Jest A Little Longer” with Genre Records!

Genre Records hands-on care and detail attention and knowledge of everything that's related to the music industry takes all the stress and worry away from the artist, allowing the artist to focus only on their music. That's something all artist hope to find when working with any Record Label. Genre Records puts the music and the artist FIRST!!!

Finally, I want to thank Mr. Larry Brian Binns, retired Vice-President and A&R Director at Genre Records for discovering my ReverbNation Discover Playlist that I posted on Linkedin. Even though he is retired, he was impressed with my music and sent my music over to you, his younger sister, who happened to be the CEO of Genre Records 😀!! The rest is now history and making beautiful music together! I am SO thankful for the opportunity to do what I love🎹🎼🎵🎶🎼!!!

 Lyrics: "Jest A Little Longer"

Let me tell you bout the dream I had last night

It was one where I

close my eyes and then I drifted my way to the sky

Let me tell you bout the dream I had that day

It was one where I

close my eyes and then I scream into the

distant space

And so I’ll

close my eyes for

Jest A Little Longer

Jest A Little Longer

And I think I’ll fall asleep for Jest A Little Longer,

little longer..

Cause I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there

Cause I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there…

Let me tell you bout the time I had last night

Oh there was people and they’re talking to me but

it seemed out of spite

Oh and cars were crashing, people running

Oh how did I get there? Never think I’d get this far.

Then I said “here you are.”

And so I’ll

close my eyes for

Jest A Little Longer

Jest A Little Longer

And I think I’ll fall asleep for

Jest A Little Longer,

little longer…

cause I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there

because I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there…

Oh ya think you know

You gotta sort it all out

Why don’t you stick with me until we figure it out

Oh you think you know what dreams are made of

Till you think you got it all sorted out

You think ya, You think you know

You think ya, You think you know

You think ya, You think you know

Because I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there

Because I’m not, no I’m not quite adjusted

I think I’ll close my eyes, yeah I’ll close my eyes

and stay there

And stay there

And stay there...
